Why choose Oh Baby! KC Postpartum Doulas & Newborn Care Specialists?

A Night Nanny is a person who cares for the baby while the parents get sleep. That doesn’t sound so bad, does it? However a Postpartum Doula does that same thing except we are also specialists in the well-being of the whole family. So depending on what your family’s needs are, we will pair you with the perfect professional for your needs.

You can rest easy knowing that you and your baby are being cared for by the top-rated postpartum doulas in the Kansas City area.

Why choose to work with a team?

Having a postpartum doula/newborn care specialist is a wonderful experience! Kansas City has a lot of amazing options to choose from, but the thing that sets us apart is that we always pair our families with a team of doulas. We do this for 2 main reasons:

  • This ensures that you have more availability to choose from, if one of your team members is ill or cannot cover a needed shift, you have other team members to take care of your needs.

  • This gives our families a wide range of expertise and experience that no one person can provide.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We do not take the care of our families lightly! When an individual reaches out and expresses interest in working with us, there are several steps taken to ensure that they are not only a reliable & safe person to place in the homes of our families, but also someone who maintains the level of care that we are well-known for.

Requirements for working with Oh Baby! KC are:

    Up-to-date background check,

Proof of Postpartum Doula or Newborn Care Specialist training/certification,

    2 reference letters,

    Proof of liability insurance,

Infant CPR Certification (renewed every 2 yrs)

Many of our professionals have backgrounds as nannies, au pairs, nurses, teachers, student midwives, and of course, moms.

  • Your doula's main priority will be to help you get as much sleep as possible, but she's also there to make your life a little easier. Outside of the hours of 10pm and 6am, as long as your baby is content, she's happy to fold some laundry or do a few dishes/wash bottles.

  • Yes! We want you to feel comfortable with the people you invite into your home. Your doula team will reach out to say hello around a month before your due date. From there, you can either talk to them on a phone call or a video chat. If for some reason you don't believe one of the doulas are a good fit, reach out to Mary & she will make changes to your team.

  • We don't *expect* to get much sleep while on a job, but as long as your baby's needs are met and asleep in a safe sleep environment, your doula can catch a nap as well. We do require that a comfortable, flat surface (sofa, air mattress, guest bed) be provided for our doulas.

  • Your doulas will come prepared with anything they think they'll need. We do ask that you provide a comfortable place for the doulas to sleep/rest during their shift.

  • We always pair our families with a team of doulas! The size of the team is dependent on how many nights per week a family is needing, but generally, teams consist of 3 doulas. This way, we have flexibility within the schedule and backup options in case someone is sick or out of town. We also have doulas who solely provide backup care in the case of all the doulas on a team being unavailable.

  • There are a few things that are outside of our scope of practice. Those being: Giving medical advice, issuing medication to you or your baby, driving you or your children anywhere, or scrubbing toilets (We can refer you to a great house cleaning business or two though!)

  • Nope - and here’s why: By the time you have your baby, you might be sick of seeing people in scrubs! Plus, we are not in your home in a medical capacity. It’s not an authentic representation for what we’re there for!

We want you to feel like a calm, capable friend just arrived - not like you’re being charted. Our doulas show up professionally dressed, but in comfy clothes that feel right for your home environment.

We do offer optional Oh Baby! KC t-shirts for team members who want to show some brand pride in the wild - but it’s not required for in our families’ homes.
